June 3 Board Meeting

This site supports and campaigned for DONNA FLAYHAN, LAURIE OSMOND, RALPH LEGNINI and ANN McGILLICUDDY, candidates in the May 20 election for Trustees of the Onteora Central School District, in Ulster County, NY. Thanks to your support, the four candidates were elected in a phenomenal outpouring of cross-district enthusiasm. This site will continue to offer news about the election campaign and the issues on hand.
The current Board is forcing through a Grades 5-8 Middle School in Boiceville. What does this mean?
Closure of Woodstock/Phoenicia elementary school.
$70+ MILLION in taxpayer bonds to pay for reconfiguration
5th Graders in same building and on same buses as 12th Graders.
5th Graders starting school at 7:45am.
Many K-4 grades on buses earlier and for much longer journeys
Maxed-out class sizes, district-wide
Loss of community, decline in property values.
The firing of locally based, tax-paying teachers and secretarial/maintenance staff, those savings to be spent on multi-million dollar Middle School addition. Who will make the profits on this building? Local taxpayers? Or big businesses?

• Moratorium on the Grades 5-8 Middle School configuration
• Save our Schools. Keep all 3 Elementary Schools open
• Moratorium on $69-$86M Bond Proposals
• If still an issue, Candidates will not vote to enact Large Parcel.
• Grade configurations that keep community schools open and enhance education
• Financial prudence: Avoid bureaucratic waste
• Keep taxes down.
• A creative, broad-based, well-rounded education for all children of the Onteora Central School District.
